Kisel rounds off PWC season with 2 podium finishes

The last Pirelli World Challenge event of the season took place on Sept 12, 13 at the Miller Motorsports Park, Tooele, UT. This time around it was #57 Andrei Kisel who scored two podium finishes for the Racing.ca team.

Qualifying did not go entirely our way as the #57 got the 4th fastest lap and the #58 - 8th, however car #12 was found out of compliance and was moved to the back of the grid thus the Racing.ca cars were promoted to 3rd and 7th respectivly.

Round 13 saw mixed luck for the team's drivers: Andrei Kisel was able to score his first Pirelli World Challenge podium, finishing in 3rd place, while Glenn Nixon had his first DNF of the year when the #65 Paul Holton crashed him out of the race at the begining of lap two.

Price, of Middletown, Va., in the No. 51 Carsquare.com/Unlimited Racing/RP Performance Honda Fit extended his lead in the TCB Driver’s Championship, after finishing just ahead of Nathan Stacy, of Owasso, Okla. in second place in the No. 14 MDG/Ford Racing Ford Fiesta.

Finishing a season-best third, for his first career podium finish in Pirelli World Challenge was Andrei Kisel, of North Vancouver, B.C. in the No. 57 Racing.ca/LaptopScreen.com Mini Cooper.

Round 14

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The TCB battle was intense throughout between Schwartz, of Denmark, in the No. 12 Animas/ADA/American Honda Honda Fit and Andrei Kisel, of North Vancouver, B.C. in the No. 57 Racing.ca/LaptopScreen.com Mini Cooper, after both got by Price once he’d led the first three laps.

Schwartz and Kisel exchanged the lead five different times; meanwhile Schwartz was able to emerge ahead at the checkered flag following the ultimate pass for the win on Lap 21.

"What a battle, what a race, it was fun inside the car,” he said. “I tried Kisel a few times, got by him, but he was able to come right back on me, so I stayed behind him until it was the right time to do it. I was hoping that I could make a last lap pass before the checkers. We had a little bit of the battle there as he went on the inside and I did an over-under on him, and he pushed a little wide. I got him and we had some traffic there as well, so it was pretty exciting there at the end.”

Kisel finished a hard-luck second, although it marked his second straight podium.

"It was a great way to round off the season and it gives me confidence for next year,” he said. “I didn't want to be too hard, I just wanted to finish on the podium no matter what. I wouldn’t be able to do it without Glenn (Nixon) and Nixon Prosports.”

Glenn Nixon, of Mission, B.C., also took home two specialty awards. He won the Optima Batteries Best Standing Start with a gain of eight positions off the starting line, and also the Sunoco Hard Charger for the same gain. Nixon finished sixth in TCB.

#22 Nic Duynstee was a welcome addition to the team, Nic finished as high as 8th in his debut Pirelli World Challenge race, however in Race 2 he was involved in an accident on the opening lap and was not able to rejoin the action.

"Tough weekend for myself at Miller Motorsports Park in my Pirelli World Challenge debut. Bad qualifying and some bad luck in race 1 ended in an 8th place finish. Race 2 was looking to be better after a good start but I was hit at the end of the first lap which sent me spinning into the path of another car. The damage from the hit was too much to continue. Unfortunately these were not the results that I wanted but I learned a lot and next year we will come out stronger and hopefully get some better luck", he said.
