Glenn Nixon Wins at Pirelli World Challenge CTMP Grand Prix!

Second PWC weekend of the season for TC, TCA and TCB classes took place between Friday, May 15 - Sunday, May 17 at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, Bowmanville, ON, Canada.
Every weekend of this year’s Pirelli World Challenge is a tripleheader for TC, TCA and TCB cars with each race lasting 40 minutes long.

It was Glenn Nixon in his Racing.ca/LaptopScreen.com/Nixon Prosports MINI Cooper who won Race 1.

TCB race started out with the competitors placed accordingly to their qualification results with the No. 25 of Johan Schwartz in his Chevy Sonic taking the lead over No. 58 of Canada’s own Glenn Nixon in his Racing.ca/LaptopScreen.com/Nixon Prosports, MINI Cooper immediately followed by his teammate and fellow Canadian No. 57 Andrei Kisel, of North Vancouver, B.C. in his Racing.ca/LaptopScreen.com/Nixon Prosports, MINI Cooper in third.

By Lap 10, TCB leader Schwartz began to gap Nixon, Kisel, and Wei Lu, of Richmond, B.C. in his No. 59 Racing.ca/LaptopScreen.com/Nixon Prosports, MINI Cooper.

Lap 11 saw the second full-course caution fly, this time for the TCB entry of No. 2 Van Svenson who had spun to a stop in turn 3 while battling for 5th.

The race resumed on lap 14 with TCB's Schwartz leading Nixon, Kisel, Lu, and Korince.

The final lap was a thriller when Schwartz's Sonic lost momentum as the driver downshifted into second coming out of 5B and onto the Mario Andretti straight allowing Nixon, Korince, and Washay in their MINIs to slide by. Schwartz ended in fourth followed by Kisel in fifth.

"I had quite a lead until the second full-course yellow," said Schwartz. "After the second restart, the MINIs were working together to draft and were able to keep the gap close. So, in Turn 5B I decided to downshift into second instead of my normal third. When I went to go back into third it did not find the gear like I wanted it to and I lost of all my momentum down the straightaway."

"Once he (Schwartz) missed the shift it allowed us in our MINI and the other MINIs behind to close in," said Nixon. "We were all bumper to bumper at that point and it made for an exciting finish to the race. The last time I was here was 15 years ago so even though it's in my home country it is not a place I get to compete at regularly."

In Race 2 in TCB, pole sitter Travis Washay in the No. 30 Indian Summer Racing MINI Cooper was passed by Schwartz, in the No. 25 Chevy Sonic. Fourth-on-the-grid, Glenn Nixon moved into second.

On lap 3, Schwartz still led Nixon, with Randy Smith, of Coldwater, ON in the No. 66 IDLife/Race2IDLife.com Shea Racing Honda Fit in third.

A full-course yellow on Lap 6 occurred when Andrei Kisel, of North Vancouver, B.C. rolled his No. 57 Racing.ca/LaptopScreen.com MINI Cooper on its roof in turn 5 after launching the car off the curb through the turn. Kisel was not injured.

After the restart, TCB's Schwartz remained in the lead over Nixon and Smith.

In Race 3 in TCB, Round 5 winner Schwartz got the jump over Glenn Nixon, followed by the No. 59 of Wei Lu, followed by the No. 30 driven by Travis W. Washay and the No. 57 of Andrei Kisel.

By lap three Schwartz and Nixon opened a gap over the rest of the TCB field. On Lap six the TC leaders came through the TCB field giving Nixon the opportunity to close up on the leader Schwartz, with the No. 66 of Randy Smith moving from sixth to third.

The top five was reset when the No. 30 of Washay went off in turn 9 on lap 19. The final order was Schwartz taking the win over Nixon in second and Smith in third.
